As being part of India’s most popular online travel agency, MakeMyTrip, HotelTravel had been one of the fastest growing travel sites since it was established in 1999 by their founder and CEO, Mr. Blair Speers. The Canadian businessman had worked in Thailand for over 20 years and has an extensive background and experience in technology and information communications.
Prior to HotelTravel, Blair Speers had founded three international schools in Thailand in early 1990s but he was still up to his travel passion that it led him to work with Planet Holiday in 1997. Now, the growth of HotelTravel has been a big thanks to their leader that is also the current IT Chairman for the PATA Thailand Chapter.
Why HotelTravel?
The travel site’s has a fixed background snapshot of Thailand’s Asiatique Sky. Obviously, since it’s a hotel meta search engine, it lets travelers to search and compare for the discounted hotel rates from over 190 countries. It is shown that all filtered results are from great hotels with unbeatable deals and with the best rate guaranteed. If you’ll notice, on HotelTravel they are promptly showing 2013 best online travel agency. However, if you’ll observe closely it says “Voted” (not Awarded)
HotelTravel prevents language barrier by giving the option to change the language of the site to Deutsch, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, French, Spanish and Chinese. Customers can also change the currency, wherein the options is shown on the top right of the main page.
The result page of HotelTravel is quite impressive. In this review, I tried searching for Elephant Hills Resort in Zimbabwe. The result page gives plenty of details such as location, google map view, snapshot of the resorts interior, Tripadvisor ratings and reviews, short description about the destination and it also displays prices starting from the cheapest.
HotelTravel Reviews of Consumers
There are a lot of HotelTravel reviews shown online, mixed comments and feedback. Some even created a site to post their complaints about HotelTravel. But in this review, let me stick to a more trusted site called “Trustpilot”. On Trustpilot, HotelTravel gathered an overall score of 7.6/10 from 3940 HotelTravel reviews. The most recent post was published 4 hours ago. The reviewer said:
“I booked through the website after finding them significantly the cheapest for the hotel I wanted – and this included B&B, while breakfast was not included with any other site. After booking, I read some reviews online which didn’t fill me with confidence so I contacted the hotel direct to make sure my booking had been made. It was confirmed by the hotel immediately. I have no qualms recommending this website to book travel.”

Advice to Revise
Based on several HotelTravel reviews and their company’s reputation, it is safe to assume that the site is safe to use for your hotel accommodations. But it is still best to see for yourself if you would like their services and procedures. The only complaint I can tell about HotelTravel so far, is to upgrade their website’s layout and design to look a bit modernized.
