Airblue traces its roots to its foundation in 2003 and its commencement of operations on June 18, 2004 using three leased Airbus A320-200 aircraft serving Karachi–Lahore and Karachi–Islamabad. At this time, they were inaugurated by then Prime Minister of Pakistan, Zafarullah Khan Jamal. Airblue’s first international flight originated from Karachi to Dubai, and this occurred on Pakistan’s 58th Independence Day, on August 14, 2005, with other international flights and plans following, including their first flight to Manchester using Airbus A321.
They were the first airline in Pakistan to use e-ticketing, wireless check-in, and self check-in kiosk facilities; meanwhile, they use ticket distribution system Sabre. As of August 2016, Airblue has a fleet size composed of 3 Airbus A320-200 and 5 Airbus A321-200, flying to 12 destinations. Blue Miles is Airblue’s frequent flyer program.
Mr. Tariq Chaudhary serves as the airline’s CEO and Chairman of the Board.

Their official website is in a dark blue and white colour scheme which reflects on Airblue’s brand logo.
