CommutAir traces its roots back to 1989, wherein operations began in August 1. The airline changed affiliations to Continental Airlines in December 2000, when US Airways decided not to renew the codeshare agreement.
In July 2001, the company announced plans to downsize its fleet and workforce by approximately half and change the route structure of the airline. In early 2002, the company began a “micro-hub” operation based in Albany, New York. At its high point in 2003 and 2004, the hub served 15 cities within the Northeast and Canada with a fleet of Beechcraft 1900s. Service was also provided out Boston’s Logan International Airport to several Northeast cities.
In the long run, CommutAir closed its pilot base in Cleveland Hopkins International Airport after United Airlines withdrew its Cleveland hub. Now, the American regional airline has a fleet size of 26 aircraft serving 30 international destinations.
Flying with CommutAir
CommutAir follow the frequent flyer program MileagePlus since they operate under the name United Express for United Airlines. Since the regional airlines is composed of Bombardier and Embraer, CommutAir can accommodate 37-50 passengers on board. This only means the airlines has only one type of exclusive cabin on board. The CommutAir fleet was once composed entirely of Beechcraft 1900D aircraft, operated for US Airways Express and later for Continental Connection.

Another good thing about CommutAir, their official site is modernized and user-friendly, which means navigating through the page won’t be a problem. Overview
It goes without saying that CommutAir is actually one of the best American regional airline. CommutAir might be new to our ears, but at least it’s good to discover new airlines every now and then who are efficient and cheap. Not all major or regional airline can provide this two requirements consistently. Since the airline was just recently established 27 years ago, let’s give it time to improve more and turn into a major airline in time.
